APPLETON, Wis. Oct 27, 2005 — When Emily the cat went missing a month ago, her owners looked for their wandering pet where she had ended up before the local animal shelter. This week they learned Emily sailed to France.
Lesley McElhiney now figures her cat went prowling around a paper warehouse near home and ended up in a cargo container that went by ship across the Atlantic Ocean and was trucked to Nancy, a city in northeastern France near the border with Germany.
Employees at a French lamination company found her in the container, checked her tags and called Emily's veterinarian, John Palarski, in Kimberly, just east of Appleton.

Palarski called the McElhineys Monday to tell them their pet was safe, if a little hungry.
"It probably had access to food and water," Palarski said. "I doubt if it went three weeks without it. There must have been a lot of mice on the boat. Even if it was in the cargo department, you would assume there was water down there. She had to have something."
Palarski faxed French authorities with the cat's vaccination records to help remove her from quarantine, but the family is wondering how they will retrieve the pet.
Emily will need a health certificate from France to return home, and she will have to go through quarantine again on entering the United States, Palarski said.
The friend of a co-worker is going to Germany next week, but that's a country away.
"The only thing we can think right now is buying a plane ticket," McElhiney said. "She already cost us some the first time we got her from the humane society. She's getting to be an expensive little thing."

Navy sued for sonar blasting whales
Navy sonar messes with whales fragile little minds. Wow I wonder how many whales were lost during WW II. Anyway as much as I feel for the whales, hey Me comes first. And besides if we ever run out of whales all we have to do is slingshot ourslevs around the sun, convert us a whale tank, and beam up 300 tons.
Nasa's Back,...Apollo?

Now I enjoyed Reading and then Watching Arthur Clark's 2001 Space Odyssey series. I thought I understood a good deal of what Clark was attempting to communicate in his book. Then Today I came across this. This 10 minute flash movie provides soo much insight into the 2001 space odyssey series that my mind has absolutely had to reevaluate what it was I thought the books were about. Really if you read the books, watched the movies, or both you really need to watch this short movie. Just choose your language.

“Stop BOY”…….
Ok so everyone who knows me as a gamer knows that my games of choice when it comes to First Person Shooters are Unreal Tournament, Doom 3, or Painkiller. But, those who know that also know that I am always open to a good game of Quake.
Standing outside Game stop, Quake IV Preorder box with receipt in hand, adorning my Quake 4 preorder Quakecon T, I impatiently waited for that guy on the inside to unlock the door.
Once upon a time past in a house not so far away, a young man by the name of Brian (in what I imagine was an attempt to keep me occupied, as my sister and cousin, both females, played Barbie House with one another) was introduced by his uncle, a computer game. OOOOO but this was no ordinary computer game. No longer was I confined to a lone 4bit neon green tank with an arsenal of nuclear weapons in a two dimensional world, this game was much more, this game, was Wolfenstein 3d. Three dimensional worlds, big monsters to shoot with equally big weapons, any five year old boy’s ultimate dream. And so it came to be, that on a Gateway 2000, 386 computer, in the kitchen of an Appletown WI house, on Don’t me Daddy, under the direction of his uncle……. a gamer was born.
Utterly infatuated with the game I began to play. Hours and hours Level after level, Nazi after Nazi, searching for the illusive silver and gold keys, and the elevator to bring me to some new never before seen world with bigger and bader zombies… Each trip to my aunt and uncles house brought me one step closer the final level…...I don’t know how many trips to my aunt and uncles house (about 45 mins away) it took, or how many hours I played, but one day it happened.

With my chaingun at the ready, the think metal green door of the elevater door opened. An empty room,… well empty, all except enough ammo weapons and medical packs, and one door. Stocking up on everything I could I timidly pressed the spacebar to open the door. The BOSS of the game!!!…My chain gun spun, hundred of bullets hurtled toward the giant blue monster…………My little hart pounding I watched my army guy jump into the air and scream yeayyayahhhhaah, as the credits and the Id logo began to run. Little did I know that thirteen years later I would still be playing Id’s games.
After a while my parents purchased a computer (Packard Bell 486) and with it came more Games, Quake, Doom, even Steler 7 and Indiana Jones, but the games I always loved the most were Id’s.
I remember vividly my aunt and mother asking if I was going to go blow stuff up on the computer while the girls played, turning up the sound on the new speaker my uncle had attached to make the game sound better, and that little 4 bit man running at the screen. The strange thing is today I am not all the different, I still turn up the sound to hear the game better, preferring to blow the heck out of some IMP rather then go and hang out, and I still love watching cut scenes.
With my special Edition Quake 4 in hand I anxiously walked out of the store……….After a thirty minute drive back, and what seemed to be an endless Military Weapons class, I was free,……. As I moved with the speed of haste back to the room I knew only one thing the Strogg had no chance, Game ON.
So Carl if you’re reading this, thanks for letting a five year old kid play a Mature rated game.

IV's The charm
Ok quick post, look for more in a few days after this weekend after Kim leavs and whatnot. But I have been playing Quake IV today and I am really impressed with it. There is just soo much that RAVEN did well including a bunch of stuff that Wisconsinites would only get. Dont expect much here until after midterms, Kim leavs and I finish IV.

As we all know James Doohan better known as Scotty form our beloved Star Trek The Original Series, will take his place among fellow coluge Gene Rodenbery as his remains are to be sent to space.

Timeline of video games
Ever heard of "A Brief History of Time"? Well this is a brief History of video games.
GTG
Well this afternoon I accomplished more then I had set out to do in the morning. I started putting the final touches on Panther LAN and the website (got the registration done to). I even made flyers and a really nice brochure for it.
I also spent a pretty good deal of time working on the FSFI webpage updating it, it was in dire need of help. Although not finished I think its way better then it was before. Well that being said I think I am going to turn in early tonight I need to catch up on some sleep.
Speaking of Lake Lucerne
By pure luck I happened to stumble upon this, a webcam that constantly shows Lake Lucerne. I have a feeling Ill be watching this camera for hous on end whie I do my homework. Take a look. Somehow I find it relaxing.
The little things taken Forgranted
A light but chilled breeze swept over the campus, as cotton candy like clouds stirred ever so slowly through the upper atmosphere. The hell hot sun of just two days past had now faded, giving way so the new crisp autumn air. The trees were shedding their summer coat of leaves in preparation for grandpa winter. But this was no ordinary day, for as that light breeze traversed the campus it carried with it something new, something special.
My lungs took a deep breath of the slow moving air, through my nose spurred a life time of memories……. A smell soo light it was almost air, but more powerful then a freshly run over skunk on 41, or the paper plants of Kimberly. A stench so common in the Wisconsin air of this time of year, my body had all but dismissed it during my last years at home.
Exhaling slowly, savoring every second of the odor, a plume of black smoke swirled upward towards in the sky like Chinese Dragon ascending into heaven, and for one brief second I almost forgot I was in Texas.
I took another deep gulp of the cold air so rich with the scent it sent shivers down my spine. I could even remember thinking at one time of past, that the smell would just go away. Memories of: Countless trolling pases, in search of the infamous “Moon Eyes” on Lake Winnebago. Endless Boy Scout Outings as the Tenderfeet practiced their new earned fireman chits. Trick or Treating in the snow, dressed as a Ring Raider. Watching the Eagles soar over Lake Lucerne, Or hay rides at the Little Farmer.
The smell of burning leaves terra-formed a busy college campus into the vast wilderness of Wisconsin.

The Sky is falling
This will be a short post but for me it is ever soo important. Today the trees around here began to loose their leavs, and the temperature dropped about 12 degrees. Oh thank god I was begining to think that the heat would never be nice and go away. Oh and the cold note just reminded me again, making me angry, that because or lovely RITA we lost a week of school, right. So the administration in their infinite wisdom decided that we should have another week of school in December to make up for the time. So now instead of coming back the 8th it looks like I may be touching down in Wisconsin on the 15th, of December that is. I better stop before I go Lizzie Borden on the administraters.
Name that Paper
Ok so I was organising some of my files and came across a classic in my books Kudos to anyone who guesses the paper it's from.
Warning the excerpt below depicts a graphic scene.
When police arrived on the crime scene they discovered Andrew Borden spewn across the living room sofa with blood oozing out of his head and neck area. As they combed the house for evidence the police found a second victim, this time it was Abby Borden. Abby had been murdered in a similar fashion upstairs in the guest bedroom. Blood ran from the wall and stairs of the Borden household. Both Andrew and Abby had been befriended dull rusty plunge of an axe head. The Borden’s had been hacked to death without warning or mercy.
I know it may sound funny for a paper but you have to remember who it was for.

10th Planet's Moon

1,000 years ago we were sure the earth was the center of the universe, 700 years ago we were sure the earth was round, and just now you found out that there are ten planets not nine. Can you imagine what you are going to know tommorow.

Do you have your exit buddy?

Although Prairie view did not get much of Rita in the end, for all we knew she was going to march right up here take a look around, play tidily winks with our cows, until she got bored and then move on. Needless to say Chris and I had to stock up on some food just incase. That being said, on Wednesday Chris’s girlfriend arrived and brought us to a local backcountry food store of Brookshire. Only a few minutes drive, using the back roads, we arrived at what at first seemed the Harris county People ZOO. Cars double Parked pick up trucks overflowed with loosely tied down personal belongings. People of all races franticly ran in and out of the store carrying food in their arms in extended shirts shopping carts, anything that could be used to squeeze that last can of soup into. Chris and I quickly ran about the store grabbing what we could before the store closed its doors. Meeting up after a few mins we summated our food articles and found ourselves at the end of a line indicative of those found at Six Flags Great America, starting and stopping every two feet those mere mortals waiting in line for checkout lane four became quite familiar with one another. Stories of previous hurricanes, questions about insurance, and a weary and all too aware laugh here and there from some joke or story.
The line slowly centimetered forward as announcements were mad over the stored PA system about the location of the storm and that they were no longer accepting credit cards as the pone lines now crammed with people were impossible to access. About half way through the line Chris and I found ourselves looking around at an empty store, any food that could be eaten and some things that could not, were now missing, or actually in the hands of crazed people. Oh sure there was a bar of soap here or an lone apple there, but a once full grocery store of moments past, now resembled the Sahara desert. “Good thing we came when we did” was repeated by people everywhere as Chris and I turned our heads in amazement.
Sliding our food along the floor, we neared the end, The constant beep beep beep of labels being scanned into the 1980 computer were now audible only adding to our anxious to get back to the room. Also in sight was the front windows of the store. Two hours earlier the sun had been out and the temperature was as it always is in Texas “”tenth blazes of hell hot”” were no longer. Replaced by wind and a thick low layer of dark black clouds actually resembling a cockatoo for a short time now filled the sky.
Paying the now almost exhausted cashier we thanked her in the nicest way possible and headed for the car and the back roads for PV. Twelve Mins later our door was closed. It was not opened again for three days.
Luckily the Rain, wind, and clouds was all PV and the Houston area got of RITA. Don’t get me wrong you did not want to go outside during it winds were crazy. Still Chris and I caught up on our sleep, planned some more of Panther LAN 2, and did some Physics, and for once in a long while ate very well, (Thanks to Brian’s excellent cooking skills).
Let’s just hope now that I can keep up with the mad pace of classes around here now.
And just because I love the movie, “Good afternoon we’re gonna have a great jump today”. lets see if anybody gets it.
